Lupita Nyong’o Is Now The ‘First Daughter’ Of Kenya’s Kisumu State After Dad Is Elected Governor

Peter Anyang Nyong’o, father of Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, has emerged the winner of the Kisumu governorship election in Kenya with over 95% of the votes counted.The Orange Democratic Movement candidate won 261, 972 votes, which represented 63% of the total votes cast. His closest challenger, which was the incumbent governor Jackton Ranguma had 147, 852 votes (35%). His world famous daughter actively campaigned for her father months before the election took place. In a short video which she shared via her Facebook page, the ’12 Years A Slave’ actress pleaded with electorates of the state to vote for her father through an impassioned appeal. This video went viral and was viewed over 300,000 times and shared more than 800 times on Facebook. Even though the actress had earlier said that she wouldn’t be able to make it down for the election due to a new project she is working on, she gave her father her support saying, “I support your bid to be governor of Kisumu county…you can count on my prayers and my support from afar”.Photo Credit: Getty
