The Q Man: Your Ride Deserves To Be Groomed Too

By KOKO TV

Show me a man’s car and I will tell you who he is. Truly, our cars are a reflection and also an extension of who we are. The excitement that accompanies the arrival of a new car in unrivalled and from that moments onwards till the resale man do us part, we try to impose our identity on our cars always. If you are a neat freak, roadside hawkers can be sure of zero patronage from you. A show-off dude will almost never enjoy plain-coloured car seats.

Irrespective of our personalities and by extension the personalities that our cars adopt, there are errors in the ways we care for our car. This is not a post on how to get the highest mileage from each litre of fuel or taking care of your V8 engine. We are not going under the hood. We are going under the roof instead. So how do you keep your car as styled as you are?

Clean the inside and outside of your car every month. Keeping your car clean is like keeping your room clean, except everyone can see your car and gauge how dirty (or clean) you are. An unclean car will eventually attract dirt and grime that can damage your interior and exterior, and probably won’t earn you any extra cool points from that girl you are picking for a date.
Prevent damage to your car by parking in the shade and using a window shade. Letting your car roast under a hot sun can cause some unwanted heat damage to your interior and paint job. Find a nice tree and park under it, and if there isn’t a tree, buy a nice sun shade to stop the burn. In addition to causing interior damage, UV rays from the sun can melt plastics, crack your dashboard, and cause fading on your paint job.

Clean windshield. A dirty, bug-splattered windshield is a safety hazard, as it obscures your view of the road. So give it a regular cleaning.
Always use wet cloth for wiping the car, after rinsing the paint surface with water first. Never wipe of your car with a dry cloth or duster.
Wax your car after it’s been washed, to avoid sealing the dirt. Do not wash, polish, or wax your car in the sun when the sun is hot. It could streak or stain the paint surface.

For car covers, use natural fabrics that breathe, like cotton. Make sure the car cover is secure. Never use vinyl or plastic car covers in humid conditions. They trap moisture and could cause fungus.
Add the personal touch. While there are certain conventions that should be followed when modifying in VIP style, there’s plenty of room for your individual tastes. From custom taillights to interior accessories, there are plenty of options to set your car apart from the rest.
